
I was woken from my slumber this morning by a gorgeous golden streak of sunshine that peeped into the room through a gap between my curtains. Feebly, I pried my eyelids apart, ready to greet the new morning with a snort... only to discover a pristine white blanket lying atop the barren branches of the tree outside my window. But... But it's March! It's supposed to be springtime! The daffodils have just begun to blossom and the days are growing longer... how can there be snow?
Despite how much I didn't believe it to be true, the snow was real... and thick. I loved the fluffy, virgin white carpet that it formed on the Carnatic lawn. It looked almost like icing on a cake- delicious. I was especially enticed by the flakes that fell upon the deep green leaves of holly trees. Their V-shaped leave blades held the lovely ice crystals like ice-cream in a cup... with juicy red holly berries serving as an extra topping! Oh the splendor of winter's prodigy! I could just stare out at nature's masterpiece for hours on end. How amazing, how romantic, how breathtaking.
Nevertheless, as the Chinese saying aptly puts it, “好花不常开,好景不常在。” The morning's beauty was quickly marred by the copious footprints that man left in his wake. The purity of snow was soon turned tar-black by fumes and dirt that vehicles expectorated. The serenity of dawn was broken by coughs, spits and human voices. As the day progressed on, snow was turned to slush... what was pretty and exciting soon became a thorn in the flesh, as man tip-toed and hopped over the disgusting black puddles it left behind. It is a shame to think of how short-lived snow's grandeur has been... a good experience nonetheless... but I guess once is really quite enough.
Oops, sorry guys and girls. I didn't mean to rant on about the weather (which most English people seem to enjoy doing)... but I just thought it'd been interesting to share some experiences with you? If you don't think so then just leave a tag and I promise to stop doing that again in the future. Anyway, I'd love to see JX's new hairstyle!! Please please please post a picture of yourself Ms Chan? lol... and you know what, I'm almost done with eating the CNY goodies you girls sent... so sad! I'll write a reply to your letter back soon... after my exams I reckon. So u all wait patiently ah. =) Oh! And I'm wondering whether you have all been applying for electives overseas? Keep me updated!
